Service

I have to keep reminding myself that I am keeping this blog as a journal and sometimes when I want to write something it is not always what you all want to read about or hear about. This is one of those topics, even though I truly hope you will enjoy it.

I have found that any time that I truly serve others and also serve in my church I am blessed immensely. I think we often serve to help others, but how is it that as we serve others we get blessed ten times.

It has been a little over a year since I have been released from my calling in my ward in my church. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. The calling that I had for three years was Relief Society President which is a calling that puts me over all of the women in our ward and anything that they might need. Those of you that are members know a little of what this entails. It was the hardest calling that I have ever had and there were so many times that I just wanted to give up or throw in the towel. It was so overwhelming to have that much responsibility and hope that you are doing your very best and helping influence lives for good.
This calling was such a great part of my life for three years that when I was released from my calling last year, it was very very hard on me. I truly loved all of the sisters and all of a sudden it was gone and I missed the relationships that I had developed.

I have had some great callings and opportunities to serve in the last year. I have an opportunity to work with the little nursery age children and I have loved every minute of it and right now I am music coordinator for our ward and also in the YW stake presidency. There is always a way to serve and grow.

As I was saying about my service as RS president, I am continually in awe in how much I have been blessed in my life because of this service. It has changed me, it has made me a stronger person. I am not afraid to talk to people. I am so thankful now for this great chance that I had. I have learned so many things about life and about who I am.

Lately it seems like at least three times a week, I run into someone that I was able to become friends with or get to know because of serving. Usually these are people that I would never have known if it wasn't for me going out of my way to get to know them and let them know they are important. Many times these are people that don't usually talk to anyone, but have just been able to feel like they can talk to me and we have become friends.

Each time I serve others and try to make a difference and do what I am asked to do, I am blessed so much in return. I am so thankful for these great opportunities in life to help others out. I just hope that I can teach my children how important it is to reach out to others and care about them.

I loved this post! Relief Society President has always scared me a bit, (the calling itself, but never the President). I loved serving in Primary.

In our branch my husband has served as Young Men's President and currently as Branch President.

I have been YW 1st counselor, Primary President, and currently Sunday School Teacher, RS Secretary, and Girl's Camp Director. (We've only lived here 4 years!)

I so relate to the 'throwing in the towel' feeling...but just like you we have also love serving and have learned so much!

This post brought back a lot of memories. I too was a Relief Society President. Your heart is so geared to serve. It was an amazing time, but a hard one.

I can truly see why you were called to be Relief Society Pres. If you didn't have this wonderful attitude going in, then your willingness made it possible to develop it. If that makes any sense.

I feel that way about volunteering. I always feel so fulfilled and blessed for having the opportunity to help out that way.

I'm sure your children will learn this lesson well, just from watching you.

I love that about our church. That we get to serve with people that we may not have gotten to known otherwise, and then become friends as a result.
