Lilacs

As a child, I remember going to my grandma's house and I just loved her yard. She always had so many pretty flowers that smelled so wonderful. I think the thing that I loved the most were here lilac bushes. There is nothing quite like the smell of lilacs. Whenever I smell the lilac smell, I think of my grandma. No wonder my mom loves flowers like she does.
I am so excited to say that this year we went and bought us some lilac bushes. I hope they grow and actually some day blossom. I would love to have lilacs for my family to enjoy and to remember.
Does anyone know if there are any tricks to getting them to grow and do well???

They seem to grow wild around here--so I can't help you out.

I am not a help when it comes to growing lilacs we had a bush at the old house and it gave me flower one out of the 7 years we had it. How ever Fuzzy and I took a walk in Draper the other night and I picked some from the bush at the house I grew half way up at.I love the smell.

I love lilacs. I'd like to replace one of our boring green bushes with a good smelling one, but lilacs take years to mature. I don't know how many though

Apparently, you ignore them. The more you ignore them, the more they grow! These are my favourite flowers of all time. We have quite a few in my backyard.

I LOVE lilacs and ordered some for my yard this year. I'm crossing my fingers. We moved several times when I was a kid, but I often had lilacs outside my bedroom window so I've always loved their smell...yummm....

I don't know anything about lilacs other than they smell very pretty. My mama just gave each of us three daughters a little vase full of purple ones from her yard.

Water, sun, love. Repeat.

Plant some. I'm sure you will do just fine. In no time you'll be sitting on the grass next to purple flowers thinking of grandma.

The lilac was the first bush I got when we got our house. I love them as well and mine has done wonderful all on its own. I just cut some and brought them into my house for graduation today and it just smells up the whole house. I LOVE THEM. Like you memories of grandma and grandpa.

I have a few Lilac bushes. A neighbor of mine has a plot consisting of flowers, a house, and more flowers. This neighbor noticed my obvious lack of care for my Lilac bushes and helped me trim them one year. He said they needed to be trimmed to encourage flowering. The next year I had forgotten when and how to trim them.

Your blog prompted me to look it up. Everyone knows the Internet holds the answers to life, the universe, and everything.

Lilacs are so nostalgic for me, as well. I have three bushes blooming in my yard right now. Lovely!

I think my mom did something to her lilacs to make them bloom more...but I have no idea what. Google might know some tricks, though. ;)

The smell of lilacs is one my all time favorite but it has to be from the actual flowers. No perfumes or anything like that. I don't have advice for growing them. Sorry.
